Skin Peel

Chemical peeling is a proven and effective method for skin rejuvenation. An active solution is applied to the surface of the skin which causes the superficial layer to peel off. The treatment exposes a new layer of healthy undamaged skin, resulting in a smoother texture and a more even skin tone.

Medical-strength skin peels will address the following skin concerns: uneven skin pigmentation, brown spots, age spots, melasma, rough or uneven skin texture, sun damage, acne, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, rosacea, superficial blood vessel damage and pre-cancerous growths.

Skin peels are suitable for various areas, including: face, eyelids, neck, décolletage, bald head, torso, hands, arms and legs.

The strength of the peel solution affects the depth of the treatment and the degree of exfoliation.

Mild peel

Superficial peels penetrate the top layer of the skin known as the Stratum Corneum. A mild peel will instantly refresh the skin, cleanse pores, soften fine lines, improve skin texture and superficial pigmentary changes such as age spots.

Medium-strength peel

Medium-strength skin peels penetrate the full level of the epidermis including the basal layer (Stratum Basale). These peels will resurface sun damaged skin, improve on texture roughness, large pores, dullness, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring and most pigmentation disorders.

Full-strength peel

Full-strength peels penetrate past the papillary dermis into the reticular dermis. These deeper treatments are effective in improving on pronounced hyperpigmentation, deep acne scarring, thickened and sun-damaged skin as well as resistant lines and wrinkles.

Facial TCA peel performed by Dr Sameira Perren at the Sorensen Clinic. Medical-strength peels utilising 10-30% Trichloroacetic Acid are particularly effective for facial rejuvenation. The peel is indicated for deep skin restoration and treatment of specific skin disorders that require full exfoliation and complete skin cell renewal.

Patient comfort

At the Sorensen Clinic all our full-strength TCA peels are performed with peripheral nerve blocks, ensuring maximum patient comfort throughout the procedure.

The Sorensen Clinic recommends the following skin peels

●  ZO Skin Health Enzymatic Peel

The Enzymatic Peel is a mild peel for home-use. It contains a blend of glycolic acid, papain and bromelain enzymes and provides a superficial exfoliation. It is suitable for patients of any skin type seeking to improve overall skin tone, texture and complexion. The peel can be used 1-2 times pr week, with no downtime.

●  ZO Medical 3-Step Peel

The ZO 3-Step Peel is a medium-strength peel that combines 10% TCA (trichloroacetic acid), salicylic acid, lactic acid and high-dose retinol (6%). It is indicated for patients of any skin type and colour, who require a more potent skin peel (medium strength), but with minimal downtime (3-5 days). This peel may be repeated 2-3 times annually or as required.

●  ZO Controlled Depth Peel

A full-strength peel which utilise up to 30% TCA. Indicated for deep skin restoration and treatment of specific skin disorders that require full exfoliation and complete skin cell renewal. Average downtime 7-10 days.

Depending on the strength and depth of the peel used, swelling, redness and a sensation of tightness will be experienced to varying degrees following the procedure. Within days, the outer layers of the skin will begin to peel off, a process that will continue over the following days. By the 7th to 10th days, the skin should be healed and improvement noticeable. The skin’s condition will continue to improve during the weeks following the peel.

Both men and women benefit medically and aesthetically from chemical peels. A peel can be used as a single treatment or may be repeated annually (or as often as required) as part of a personalised skin restoration and optimisation programme. Our skin specialist Dr Perren will advise on the appropriate treatment during consultation.
