Dermaroller
Dermaroller is a micro-needling therapy where multiple fine needles provide controlled trauma to the skin - activating a cascade of regenerative processes resulting in the formation of new collagen and elastin in the dermis and epidermis. Within weeks the treated skin becomes smoother, with improved thickness, strength and texture. Dermaroller treatment is indicated for facial skin rejuvenation, fine lines and wrinkles, sun damaged skin, acne scars and stretch marks.
Dermaroller micro-needling produces results similar to what can be achieved following a light fractional laser treatment or a dermabrasion - but with less redness and no down-time.
Dermaroller therapy
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. The stainless steel needles of the Dermaroller device creates minuscule holes. A normal application pattern will deliver 250 pricks per square centimetre. These micro-channels are closed within minutes after the treatment without any visible traces in the epidermis or stratum corneum.
The controlled trauma stimulates a proliferation of cells associated with skin regeneration (such as fibroblasts) and induces production of new collagen and elastin fibers.
Personalised skin care regime
Dermaroller can be used either as a stand-alone treatment or combined with other therapies into a personalised skin care regime. It is effective in rejuvenating aged and sun-damaged skin - with the forehead, cheeks, nose, periorbit, mouth and décolletage responding particulary well.
In addition, the treatment is indicated for improving acne scars, atrophic scars, post-traumatic scars, hyper-pigmented skin and stretch marks.
At the Sorensen Clinic we usually combine Dermaroller therapy with our range of specialised skin care, this will further boost the formation of collagen, increase dermal thickness and provide an overall fresher appearance.
Suitable candidates for Dermaroller
The procedure is effective, safe and well-tolerated. Depending on the nature of the concern, three to four treatments may be required. Dermaroller therapy can benefit all skin types.
